You do have to listen to the stories, for stories always mean something. The question that worries me is: WHAT exactly do they mean?

Plot Summary

Once there were Witches, but the Warriors killed them all. Or did they?

Young Xar is the son of Encanzo, king of the Wizards, but his own magic hasn't come in yet. Tired of being teased by his older brother and rearing to show the other Wizards that he is a Boy of Destiny, Xar decides to catch a Witch and use its blood to give him magic. Xar brashly ignores his friends' warnings that no good can come from using evil to obtain magic, nor does he acknowledge the fact that Witches are thought to be extinct. He is going to catch a Witch and his life is going to be changed for the better.

Meanwhile, in the fort of the Wizards' sworn enemies, a Warrior girl named Wish has a magical sword and a magical spoon. She isn't quite sure where either of them came from, but they certainly come in handy when she and her nervous bodyguard are attacked in the Badwoods. Suddenly, it appears as though Witches are not nearly as extinct as the Wizards and Warriors believed them to be. Suddenly, Wish finds herself in Wizard territory with an impossible boy named Xar, who has an even more impossible plan up his sleeve.
