Plot Summary
Fern has always known that she was out of place in the Drudger family. Her parents are obsessed with collecting boring magnets and informational fliers, eating bland food and painting their walls bland colors. Fern collects secondhand books, grows lichen in her closet and has a strange habit of witnessing strange, unexplainable things like nuns turning into lampposts and crickets hopping out of books.
The fact is that Fern really is out of place with the Drudgers. She and a boy named Howard were accidentally switched at birth by a flighty nurse. When Fern’s true father turns up on the Drudgers doorstep to reclaim his daughter, she is in the for the greatest adventure of her life. Her father, the Bone, is part of a secret society of special people called Anybodies: people who have the power to transform themselves and to transform inanimate objects, as well as to shake people and objects from books. In The Anybodies, Fern and the Bone embark on a quest to find the coveted book that will provide them with the secrets of the Anybodies: The Art of Being Anybody. But a strange man known as the Miser, who has a terrible past with the Bone, is after the book as well and will stop at nothing to get it and ruin Fern and the Bone forever.
The Nobodies is the second book of the Anybodies series. Fern and Howard set off in the summer months for Camp Happy Sunshine Good Times: an undercover camp for young Anybodies. But as always, things are never what they seem. Fern begins receiving urgent messages in bottles of Diet Lime Fizzy Drinks coming from a mysterious group of people called Nobodies. And even more, there is an evil, flower-nosed mole attacking campers and hatching a dastardly plot against the Anybodies and the Nobodies. Fern, Howard and their friends at camp must find a way to reach the Nobodies before it’s too late.
The Somebodies is the final book of the Anybodies series. Fern has been invited to the Annual Anybodies Convention in the Anybodies city nestled beneath New York City: a place full of spectacular oddities that Fern previously could only imagine. But when she and Howard set out for the convention, they discover a dastardly plot by a book-destroying Anybody known as the Blue Queen. Once more, Fern and Howard have to muster their courage and their abilities as Anybodies to save the world and the people they love so dearly.
