Mere words cannot defeat a true hero. Unless they happen to be the words to some sort of Instant Death Spell. Magic is scary.

Plot Summary

Prince Frederic is too boring and delicate for his fiance, Ella. Prince Liam saved Briar Rose from a sleeping spell, but she's a spoiled brat who only wants to marry him because of his family's treasure. Brutal Prince Gustav loses Rapunzel because he can't handle the fact that he had to be saved by a woman. Prince Duncan loses Snow White (quite literally) while wandering around the forest naming animals. What do all these princes have in common? They are the "Princes Charming" from the bards' much-screwed-up versions of fairytales. Kicked out of their kingdoms for one reason or another, the princes join up to defeat an evil witch who has kidnapped Ella. What they don't know is that Ella is fully capable of saving herself, and is on her own mission to rescue a group of bards the witch has taken captive. The witch's dastardly plan? Control the bards so that she can control the stories of the land. The "Princes Charming" must escape bandits led by the Bandit King, fight giants, survive unimaginable tavern brawls and somehow solve the issue of a tribe of beet-eating trolls.

In The Hero's Guide to Storming the Castle, the princes return with maybe more problems than before. The powerful and extremely evil Warlord of Dar has entered the land and taken up residence with the infamous Bandit King. He's on the trail of a magical object that could bring all the kingdoms to their knees. With Briar Rose still on Liam's trail, the princes and princesses must join forces to breach the Bandit King's impenetrable fortress, complete with a moat of bladejaw eels. It doesn't help that the nefarious Gray Phantom is on the loose.

Briar Rose is gone at last, in The Hero's Guide to Being an Outlaw. But matters haven't improved at all. She's suspected to have been murdered, and guess who the prime subjects are? Wanted posters all over the land are plastered with the faces of the Princes Charming. The only way to clear their names is to get Briar Rose back safe and sound.  When the princes learn that Briar disappeared on a sea expedition, they take to the seas on a voyage that they don't realize is entirely in the enemy's plans. Old magic and old enemies are back, and it all ends at an old, eerily familiar fortress. The princes and princesses have never been in deeper trouble.
