Sabrina and Daphne Grimm have spent the past few years going from foster home to terrible foster home since their parents disappeared. Now, their only relative has been located. Granny Relda lives in Ferryport Landing, a town which is much more than it appears at first glance. It's not long before the girls learn that they are descendants of the famous Grimm Brothers, whose fairy tale characters reside in Ferryport Landing. The Grimm family is responsible for the spell that confines the Everafters in town. While Sabrina is at first suspicious of this story, the truth behind it becomes hard to ignore as the sisters meet the mayor Prince Charming, a pink-winged boy named Puck, a very angry giant, a Mirror which is bigger on the inside and many more.

As the sisters and Granny Relda fight to preserve peace in Ferryport Landing, they learn more about how the girls' parents disappeared. A group called the Scarlet Hand is at large and threatening war with the Everafters. As the fairy tale detectives investigate their parents' disappearance, battle with the Scarlet Hand and its mysterious Master looms in the near future, as well as the threat of Grimm extinction.
